Gewurz wins top “Best of Fest”

Carlson Vineyards’ 2006 Gewurztraminer won “Best of the Fest” – the highest award at the 2007 Colorado Mountain Winefest in the professional winemakers’ competition. It is the first time ever in the history of the competition that a winery won top honors for the same wine – different vintage – two years in a row.

To win the top medal, first a wine must earn the highest score in its category as determined by a panel of qualified judges. Carlson’s 2006 Laughing Cat Gewurztraminer earned the top score and a “Gold” in the White Wine category. Then judges evaluate the highest scoring wine from each category to determine the “Best of the Fest.” More than 100 wines were entered by wineries at Winefest.

“For a varietal to win two years in a row with completely different sets of judges, that is quite remarkable,” said Gene Spaziani, president of Amenti del Vino, a highly-regarded organization that manages wine competitions nationwide (pictured above with Parker Carlson).

“To be chosen ‘Best of the Fest’ is a big honor, given the strong competition,” said Parker. “But for my Gewurz to win twice – it feels GOOD!”

Carlson Vineyards won seven medals at the 2007 Best of the Fest:

Carlson Vineyards has participated at every Winefest since the first one in 1992. Carlsons is the 4th winery in Colorado, pioneering wines made with high-altitude Colorado wine grapes and fruits... luscious expressions of the sun-ripened fruitiness of "vitis vinifera" grapes such as Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, Lemberger and Shiraz, as well as world-famous Palisade peaches and cherries.

These award-winning wines go quickly - order online now. Also available at the winery from 10 am to 6 pm daily, and at better liquor stores and wine shops.
