Here's a very informative article detailing the history - both foreign and domestic - of the Lemberger grape. Our T-Red (100% Lemberger) is highlighted nicely.
Writer Todd and his wife discovered a lovely wine of dark cherry flavors, soft tannins, some acidity, slightly spicy, called Blue Frankish while touring the back roads of Hungary. The same grape is better known as Lemberger in Germany.
They visited Carlson Vineyards 5 years ago, and were surprised to see we grew and produced Lemberger. Our T-Red was the first they found in the U.S. Grapes come from our own vineyard (planted 1987) and 2 others here in the Grand Valley AVA.
